Episode 3Kyoto, the Thousand-Year CapitalMembersSnowy Hokkaido, short-sleeve Okinawa — and now the lamp glows near the map's middle: Kyoto, Japan's capital for a thousand years. Walk past a golden temple, a tunnel of red gates and a stone-and-sand garden to ask why the old city still survives — then warm up with matcha and yatsuhashi.

Episode 4Tokyo, the Capital of NowMembersAfter the thousand-year capital comes the capital of NOW. Travel east of the map's middle to Tokyo, where people and trains gather from across Japan. Walk from a sky-high tower to an old red gate and a wave-like crossing, taste monjayaki in the old quarter, and compare Tokyo with Kyoto.

Nose first, Mikke leads the way past a moving crab sign and the great lord's castle, learning how food once arrived here by boat.
