A little time to read together

A picture book for the words that are hard to say

Before asking a child to find the right words, look at a character who is trying too. You can talk only about the story. There is no need to turn it into a conversation about your child.

Ideas for reading together ·

Look for words in the picture

In the app, open episode 1 of Say It With Me, The Word in Pieces, and look for scattered pieces of words in the sandbox. Read at your own pace, aloud or quietly. Start by enjoying the story together.

Ask about the character

Point to a picture and ask, “What do you think this character wants to do?” If there is no answer, you can look at the expression together or move to the next page.

Imagine what happens next

After the story, ask, “What would you like to do together after asking to borrow it?” You might simply imagine playing together. Practising a phrase need not be the goal.
